What is the relationship between your concepts and style?
I think my styles vary and I don't like to get stuck doing the same type of work all the time and my concepts vary depending on what mood i'm in or what type of medium im working with at the time.
How much do you plan before you commit to a project?
I usually plan way too much and get stuck over thinking things way too much.
Which artists inspire you and how do you incorporate their work into your own?
I get inspiration from so many artists, that do a wide range of work just from magazines and work i see on the internet. I don't really try to incorporate other artists' stuff into my work. I just try to do my own thing and if it looks a little like another artists work, thats cool too I guess.
Do you start a piece knowing what the end result will be or do you let it create itself?
I try to have an idea of what the end result will look like but it never usually ends up exactly the way I planned. During the creation process I usually change things and stuff never turns out exactly the way I plan.
What is the first step towards discovering your concepts when creating pieces?
Staring at the wall and thinking really hard. Also along the way of making things Ideas pop into my head and I go from there.
If you had to choose one driving force of inspiration, what would it be and why?
I would have to say found objects. I am really interested with them and the way they are never perfect, they are often bent or distorted some way. Also, being a photographer, taking pictures centers around finding interesting things to take pictures of.
How important is inspiration/influence/reference from other art to your own?
It is not that important. Im just doing whatever feels right to me at the time.
How do you rationalize your art with the time frame it exists in?
My art exists in the present but I think that it often has reference to the past and I think it is interesting bringing the past into the now.
Do you find yourself caught in a daydream most of the day?
I wouldn't say most of the day, but quite often my friends catch me staring off somewhere and are like; what are you looking at, and i realize i have been daydreaming.
Bird or fish for a day?
Fish
If you had to be exiled to an island, and could only take one tool, which tool would you take with you and why?
I would take a hatchet, because there would probably be a lot of trees and a hatchet would probably be the best tool for working with trees. It could also double as a weapon if there were cannibals on the island.
Why did you become an artist and how does it show in your work?
I don't know it if was a real decision to become an artist. I just like creating things and it shows in my work because I make things based on things that I see around me and that inspire me.
What is your favorite color and why?
Black, because it looks cool.
